This blog is currently on indefinite hiatus. I'm still on Tumblr, just not here. I'll still be checking messages from time to time so if you would like my other blog URL leave a message for me here and I'll give it to you.
Until then.

You’d think that if they did have the co dependent relationship that Johnson talked about (which I am inclined to think that they did) there would be more documentation of it. I mean there are some letters remaining between the two but nothing published and quite honestly not all that many that I can find.

I can’t even lie.

I like finding sources just as much as I like actually finding information.

It’s that whole treasure hunter archaeologist mentality.

 • Went downstairs to the book store to buy notebooks for this semester
 • Saw the prices and refused to pay $7 for a 5 subject notebook
 • Browsed through My Faraway One, realized there are many more references to Cary Ross than Google Books led me to believe
 • Resolve to go to the library and look for it again, we have it, it just wasn’t where it was supposed to be
 • Go to CharMar to buy 4 mini notebooks because I can buy them with dining dollars that I get when I have to buy a meal plan, so it’s not my money
 • Come back and take the stairs up 5 flights because I felt it was the right thing to do

Hmmm.
Now I’m curious.
I don’t think he was Zelda’s admirer, they seemed to be friends and not as close as Ross and FSF at any rate, and the only relationships I can find mention of were with other men.

Oh my god. He wrote a poem for them.

Seashores in the Sun for the Scott Fitzgeralds

Now if only I could find the text of that.

Knowing it’s in box 57 at the Princeton Library does not help me all that much.

Much as I adore doing this research sometimes I am overcome with emotion over the fact that these are real people who lived real lives, and the fact that there are things I will probably never know.

Like I will probably never know if Zelda Fitzgerald did in fact make a “pink and dreamy” picture for Cary Ross in thanks.

Princeton University has 5 letters from Ross to F Scott Fitzgerald in their archives.

You guys.

So at the BMA Library one of the collections is the Cone Collection and I’m looking through it at it contains one issue of The New American Caravan magazine and it’s the issue that Cary Ross was published in. And I’m willing to bet the Cone Sisters kept it because Ross was friends with Claribel Cone. Oh my god. FEELS.

It also contains a translation of Letter’s to a Young Poet that Ross translated.

Booooooks.
Look at them.
I just love books. And libraries.
And they all mention Mr. Ross at least twice.
Also I ran into my British Lit prof. from last semester and he gave me a casual head nod and said hi which is weird because 1. I was pretty sure he didn’t know who I was and 2. it took me a good 10 minutes to figure out who he was after I saw him.

Because 3am on a Saturday night means timeline time!

I also have a relationship web I worked out this afternoon.
