We were reading a text for Egypt and the writer is talking about how the gods distinguished him and front of millions and my professor goes “Isn’t that what we all want? To be distinguished? To be up on that stage in Sweden, accepting that Nobel Prize……in Egyptology”

Another entertaining tale from my Demotic writing professor.

We were talking about the House of Life and the hieroglyphs for it and he’s like and that’s the ankh (☥) you might know that one, some of you might even have it on jewellery, and Kierra and I did awkward side eyes at each other because both of us actually do have it on jewellery.  She’s got it on her necklace and I have a ring.

Sometimes I’m over come with emotion and feelings about Egyptology as a field and all the people involved with the past.

Did you know that if you get a group of archaeology majors drunk and have them play beer pong they will relate things back to famous historical battles.

Since we had all just taken out Egyptology final we related everything back to Egypt.  We reenacted the battles of Meggido and Kadesh, claimed to be Ramesses III defeating the Sea Peoples and claimed victories for the empire whenever we won. 

I love my major. 

But on the other hand, I would freaking love to meet Ankhenaten to try to understand why he did everything.

The Aten is a lame god to base your new monotheistic religion on.
